Are you discerning a contemplative vocation? Would you like to share our monastic life? The life of a Benedictine nun is one rooted in prayer, work and reading, living in a community in which the essence of Benedictine Spirituality is one of living the 'common life'.
We are a small community within the English Benedictine Congregation, founded in exile in Paris in 1651. Our nuns survived imprisonment in the French Revolution, and in 1836 settled here at Colwich in rural Staffordshire living an enclosed monastic life. We sing Mass daily and the full Divine Office, mostly in English. There is Eucharistic Adoration every week. Every year we offer a special weekend for women who are discerning a possible vocation to the Religious Life, to come and experience Monastic Life. But the invitation is always open to someone who wants to spend a few quiet days as a guest, to consider prayerfully whether the Lord is calling her to our Benedictine community life. This is an opportunity to join in the singing of the Divine Office and Mass, to spend time in private prayer, and to chat with one or two of the Sisters about our way of life. Such a first visit is not inside the monastic enclosure, so you can also relax by going for a walk along the near by canal, enjoying the Staffordshire countryside, or visiting Shugborough Hall just a mile or so from the Abbey. To arrange a visit, please contact Mother Abbess Davina at any time through THE BLOG HTTP://colwichnov.wordpress.com/ or BY EMAIL novblog@googlemail.com |
